In Istanbul, people live in concrete apartment complexes packed tightly together. Each is colored differently, has it’s unique decor and level of disrepair. As they jut upwards along the steep hills of the city, each one seems to have grown independently from one another, with their own bio-chemical design.

I’m renting a room in apartment 19 of Huzur Palas. It has a pretty unmemorable facade. Combined with being tucked back into some narrow back streets means I am constantly walking in circles looking for it. But once you go inside it has some decent marble steps, white and maroon walls and dark wood doors.

My room is furnished with a fold out couch/bed, a desk and stools. In has a pretty sweet rug too. The windows let the morning sun in, and a cool breeze at night. Somehow here in Turkey the pink walls work and check out that orientalist lampshade!

Only the 2nd floor, but we’re on a hill and my window faces out over the low part.
